In this podcast, my sister Wendy mentions an evening long ago.  Before listening to the podcast, take a moment to read about my recollection of that event.

It was a heady night, oh those 25 years ago.  The allure of fame and fortune.  Actually, it was silliness in all its glory.  Truth be told, it was the best camp skit ever known to humankind.  Fortunately, it was never filmed.  It happened before cell phones or even decent video equipment.  And so, that night lives on in sheer perfection.  Well, in my mind anyway.  And I dare you to prove me wrong.

My sisters and I have always loved musicals.  One of our favorite games was, “Name that Tune.”  Extra points if you could also identify the musical it came from.  And we almost always won the extra points.  We love the movie, White Christmas - And who doesn’t!  (Okay, I have heard there are lots of you out there who don’t, but that makes no sense to me.)  Moving on.

We are especially fond of the sisters' act.  You know, the song where the two sisters perform while wearing the powder blue, frilly 50s dresses and flaunting the huge matching feather fans?  So when we were preparing for our annual talent show at our family reunion, we jumped at the chance when someone suggested we recreate that iconic scene.  An easy transition from two sisters to three. An odd combination though, because - wait for it - we go camping for said reunion.  Picture large feather fans and frumpy outdoor attire.

We won the coveted Grammy Award that year.  Didn’t I say it was sheer perfection?  Oh wait, what I meant to say is that we won the Granny Award that year.  (Note the Aunt Jemima syrup bottle spray painted gold)

My sister Wendy took a podcast class a few years ago when she was getting her Master’s degree in Communications and Storytelling.  She generously allowed me to share her final project here.  To explore what my sisters are doing now:

  • Check out Sandy Jensen’s 700 + movie reviews seen from an unusual view.

  • For Wendy Folsom’s work, take a listen to The Apple Seed which can be found wherever people listen to their podcasts.

I love my sisters and I love our conversations.  And so, without further ado, “Sisters.”
